WICKED

Sorry to flood you all with blog posts, I didn't want to shove everything on my mind into one long- disconnected post, so you get it this way :P

Today was a magical day.

Greg got me tickets to the Broadway musical Wicked, which we went to today. We started out by going to a Farmers Market in San Francisco where we got some yummy Gyros :)

Then we headed to the Orpheum theater to see Wicked! It was so good! It made me fall in love with live-performance musicals! It was so well done, I'm in awe at the singing, the instrumentals, the lighting, the stage, everything! I'm not kidding, you HAVE to see it!

After Wicked we went to dinner at Suppenküche, which is a German restaurant I read about on Yelp. It had over 1,000 reviews with a 4 star rating! And let me tell you, I give it a 4 1/2 star rating. The food is amazing! I got Jägerschnitzel in Champignonsoße mit Spätzle und grünem Salat~Sauteed Porkloin in Mushroom Sauce served with Spätzle & Green Salad. I ate the ENTIRE meal because it is just that good! So tasty delicious! Greg got the Kassler vom Grill mit Sauerkraut und Kartoffelbrei~Grilled Cured Pork Chop with Sauerkraut & Mashed Potatoes, and it was the tenderest, most beautiful, most tasty pork chop ever (I had to try it). The experience seriously makes me want to visit Germany. I don't give it 5 stars because if you have less than 6 people they will sit you with strangers, unless you choose to sit at the bar, which is what we did!

Thank you Greg for a wonderful day and a wonderful birthday! I love you :)

Art for art's sake!

Over the summer I asked Mabel, one of my artist friends, if she could paint some pictures for me to finally finish decorating our apartment. She did such a great job! Check out her art blog! If you look through enough of her posts you can see the process she went through to paint the pictures, which is pretty interesting I think.

Check out the final projects as displayed in my apartment :)

Looks so good!

Thank you Mabel!

I have the very best friends :)

I want to thank all my friends that made my birthday so special this past week :) Especially Melissa and Mabel who threw me such a great party on Friday, made me a decadent and delectable cake, and took me to lunch on my birthday. I've made the most amazing friends since I moved to California, I feel so blessed to be surrounded by so many loving people. Thank you everyone that came to the party! I'm not the only person that enjoyed the party, and I know that because Melanie already blogged about it!

Melissa and Mabel recently opened up their own pre-order bakery, so you know that the cake they made was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. You should check out Sugar Therapy, and spread the word that they are in business and they are GOOD!

Here are some pictures from the party:

Nellie McKay/Doris Day

For my birthday I got myself a gift, the new Nellie McKay Normal As Blueberry Pie {A Tribute to Doris Day} soundtrack. I heard about her on NPR.

Sometimes I feel like I grew up in the 1950's--the baby boomer generation. Thanks to my mom I grew up watching TV shows like I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Leave it to Beaver, and the Andy Griffith Show. My mom loves musicals too. So of course that was the genre of choice for the movies I watched as a young girl. Actually anything with Doris Day in it was the genre of choice, chez-moi, whether it was a musical or not. Doris Day has always been her favorite actress/singer. So I guess I get it from my mom, I love Doris Day. I love I Love Lucy. I love that time period. It was a time when women were just beginning to establish their multi-layered roles openly in the world. And despite taking on new non-traditional roles as a woman, Doris Day somehow managed to maintain that classic womanly-ness. She is just so feminine, and I think her music reflects that. I love it.

I really love Nellie McKay's take on Doris Day's music. It sounds to me like a mix of Norah Jones and Frank Sinatra. I could listen to it all day long, every day.

To my mom, to Doris Day, to Nellie McKay, and all you feminine women out there, thank you for being so classy.

I got the picture from HERE

Dog Park Champion!

Garbanzo officially loves going to the dog park, and can greet other dogs appropriately! I'm such a proud doggy-mommy :) He use to be socially awkward with other unknown dogs, now he's socially appropriate and makes friends easily. What a champ!

Garbo...Polo

Have you ever been to a polo match? We went to our first ever polo match today with some of our good friends. I felt so hip. Some people there were dressed up all in white, wearing big hats, sipping wine, and being all aristocrat-like. Next time I go, I'm definitely going to do that :) Any reason to dress up, right!?! Well we had a great time. Thanks for inviting us Martin!
